This week I am focusing on moms. I have some really important moms in my life that I learn from on a daily basis… my mom, my godmother, my grandmother, and my mother-in-law.
My mom is one of my favorite people on the planet. She and I have a special connection with each other. We speak our own language and I am generally the only one that can comprehend what she is trying to say or figure out her line of thinking. We both struggle differentiating our right from our left, we play Marco Polo in stores to find each other, and we have matching cartilage piercings. My mom loves Def Leppard, M&Ms, and whiskey. She helps me to always stay optimistic and in a positive attitude. She keeps me laughing and smiling all the time. We have opposite tastes in everything, but see eye to eye on everything. She taught me how to drive and water ski. She taught me not to care about what other people think. She supported me when I told her I wanted to be a teacher (even though it was a crazy decision). She lets me complain about my students, my friends, my family, my dogs, and everything in between. She is my sounding board for all of my decisions.
My mom is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. She has moved me in and out of college, moved me to Virginia, moved me home from Virginia, and moved me into my first house. She lost her mother and came through gracefully, if I lost her I am not sure I would be able to survive the way that she has. She is smart and strong and sassy. She is my best friend and I wouldn’t trade her or her sarcastic attitude for anything.
Everything I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my mother. She has made me the person that I am today and I don’t know what I would do without her.
