3 Things to Help Your House during Covid 19

I am going crazy because of the Corona virus, stir crazy that is! This is hardest on people like me, the huggers and social butterflies. I am struggling to stay at home with only my fiance and two dogs. Being stuck in quarantine is not at all what I want to be, and after about two days I figured I had to do something! My first thought was cleaning, I like things clean and put away. A clean house is a happy house and I didn’t think I could really enjoy spending so much time at home without a good cleaning to take care of my house. So I came up with a list of three good deep cleaning things to do while stuck in quarantine.

  1. Clean the House

Now when I say clean the house, I don’t mean your weekly dust this ad vacuum that. I mean serious deep cleaning of the house top to bottom. I started with the main floor. I washed the walls, I scrubbed spots out of the carpet, I wiped the baseboards, I did it all!

Cleaning the baseboards was much easier when I found the hack to cover a broom with a dust cloth and run it along the baseboards. I hacked wiping the walls by covering a swiffer floor cleaner with the wet soapy rag. It was almost like painting walls with a roller, covering more ground faster and easier. Sadly, I had to just scrub the carpets by hand until I can get a good carpet cleaning machine to my house.

2. Declutter Your Life

This is a great opportunity to get rid of some of the junk and stuff that is just taking up space right now. I used this time to clean out my closet, kitchen, basement, and bathroom.

I went through all of my clothes, I ended up with about three boxes of clothing to donate to GoodWill. I ended up with a whole box of old dishes, casserole dishes, and odd tools from the kitchen. In the bathroom I cleaned everything and it was a great opportunity to go through the medicine cabinet and linen closet. I threw out old medicine, old towels and rags, and decluttered all the extra stuff that was shoved in there.

Since we moved into our house about a year ago, the basement has become a catch all for everything that we didn’t have a place for. Odds and ends that we didn’t really know what to do with: luggage, my paddle board, old shoes and clothes, and boxes galore from all of my amazon purchases! We cleared everything out and ended up with about six garbage bags full of stuff to go out with the trash.

3. Wash Everything

This one is pretty self explanatory. Wash everything that can be washed. When was the last time you washed your bedding? I’m not just talking about sheets. I’m talking about your mattress pad, your comforter or quilt, your pillows. Wash it all! This is also a good time to really wash your towels. Wash them once with hot water and vinegar and then again with a half cup of baking soda. This will get rid of all the extra gunk that doesn’t come off with a regular wash. The last thing that people think about is washing your curtains; they need it too. Take down the curtains in your windows and your shower curtain. They need a good cleaning every once in a while too!

Take this opportunity to take care of your house. This is one of those things that people say they will do if they only had the time. Well, you have the time now. Do it, not only will it clear out your house, it will also clear out your head!
