DIY Pencil Shoes

As a teacher, I am constantly looking for things to represent the teacher lifestyle! I have teacher t-shirts and little apple jewelry sets, but I was looking for something fun that I could wear on our dress down days with all of my teacher gear. After searching the internet (i.e. Pinterest), I found the cutest shoes that look like pencils. Being the crafty person that I am, I figured I could just make them myself with stuff I had around the house. I had a spare pare of white tennis shoes and acrylic paint so all I had to do was get to work.

The first thing I did was find the paint colors I needed (gray, pink, silver, a tan color, and of course yellow) and my white shoes. I also needed some painters tape and paint brushes.

The next step was to tape off the different sections of the shoe to look like a pencil. Then I started painting the shoes in sections. I actually found out that taping just the section I was painting and then waiting for the paint to dry before moving on to taping the next section was easiest.

This was a time consuming project, I would paint a section, wait for it to dry, and then move on to paint the next section. All together, it took me a couple of hours, so I ended up doing other things in between while the paint was drying.

After all of the paint was dry and the tape had all been removed, I took a small sharpie and wrote a tiny “No. 2” on the side to really get my point across that these were supposed to be pencils. Overall I am super pleased with them and can’t wait to wear them to school next year!
